Even though it doesn’t involve eating a gazillion categories or spending myself into deep debt, I love New Year’s. It’s a whole new year! Shiny and New Year! It’s like a fresh start. And, who doesn’t love a fresh start?
It is so easy to get wrapped up in resolutions past. What didn’t work? What didn’t happen? But, like I said, it’s a New Year!!! Yeah!!!! Things don’t have to be the same. This can be the year that you experience resolution success! Here are a few tips on how to do it:
- Set no more than 3 resolutions. A laundry list will spread you too thin and what you need is to focus. So keep a goal or two on deck for when you reach on of the two to three resolutions you set for yourself.
- For each resolution, think of the most likely things to go wrong and plan for them. What will you do when a nasty cold knocks you off of your workout schedule? How will you get back on track when you succumb to an evening of emotional eating? Plan B each resolution.
- Show persistence and patience. As Kim Acedo, the Fun! Feisty! Fabulous! health consultant said, nothing worth having happens quickly – a college education, a baby, growing plants, … so don’t expect your goals to happen with the snap of a finger.
