Psychology can really be a downer. Pouring over a negative past to get to a bearable future, delving into mental illness, it is a lot! Yet, there is a positive side to psychology. Diane Lang is a therapist, educator and life coach (http://www.dlcounseling.com/) who specializes in Positive Psychology. Where does she start? By showing people how to play to their strengths.
So much attention has been paid to building up your weaknesses that your strengths often get ignored. It seems like of backwards, doesn’t it? In school, I always excelled in writing, Spanish and history but all the emphasis went to math and science, with barely a nod given to my strengths.
This trend continued into adulthood. Where we focus on our shortcoming and overlook our strengths. While we do need to work on building up our weaknesses, we also need to celebrate and indulge our strengths. Sounds like a positive step to me!
